Psychotherapy with me
Sometimes people come to therapy because something is clearly wrong.
Sometimes life has simply become harder than it needs to be.
You may be struggling with anxiety or depression, grieving a loss, navigating a relationship or significant life transition, living with the effects of trauma, or trying to make sense of something that keeps getting in the way.
You do not need to have a perfect explanation for what is happening before we begin.
My approach to psychotherapy is structured, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I work from a strengths-based perspective, integrating clinical methods according to your needs rather than applying the same approach to everyone.
Together, we may work to:
· understand what you are experiencing
· recognize patterns that may be contributing to it
· consider the larger context in which those patterns developed
· identify what can change
· develop greater steadiness in moving forward
I am interested in both the immediate concern and the larger context in which it occurs. That may include relationships, personal history, identity, culture, systems, patterns of thought and behavior, and the ways you have learned to understand yourself and the world around you.
My background in behavioral health and social justice education informs a clinical practice grounded in equity, respect, curiosity, and ethical care.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Missouri with more than 30 years of experience in behavioral health.
If you’re considering therapy, the next step is a brief conversation.
This may be a good fit if you are:
experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, stress, or the effects of trauma
navigating a significant life transition
struggling with a relationship or recurring interpersonal pattern
reflecting on identity, meaning, or direction
feeling caught between competing responsibilities, expectations, or values
looking for a therapist whose work is informed by multicultural and equity perspectives
wanting therapy that is both practical and reflective
willing to be curious about what you think you already know
What working with me is like:
I will listen carefully. I will ask questions. I will help you look for connections and patterns that may be difficult to see when you are in the middle of them.
I am unlikely to simply tell you what you should do.
Instead, we will work together to understand what is happening, what matters to you, and what possibilities may be available.
Therapy with me tends to include conversation, curiosity, reflection, practical strategies when they are useful, and the occasional challenge to something we have begun taking for granted.
You are not a passive recipient of treatment. We are doing the work together.
This may not be the best fit if you are:
in need of emergency or crisis services
seeking court-mandated evaluation or treatment
looking primarily for someone to tell you what decisions you should make
Ready to talk?
You do not have to decide whether I am the right therapist for you based on a website.
That is what the consultation is for.
We will have 15 minutes to talk briefly about what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for, and whether my approach and availability seem appropriate for your needs.
There is no charge for the consultation and no obligation to schedule a psychotherapy appointment.
Knowing that you would like something to be different is enough to begin.
